How To Learn To Code For Free

My Top 3 Free Coding Resources

So, you want to learn how to code but have no idea where to start? Well this is the article for you! As someone who was completely lost when I first began my journey into tech, I tried many different classes and tutorials - from free to paid. All in all, I found three different resources which I feel are the most well-rounded for beginners, as well as being cost-effective. Hopefully, this list can help you as much as it has helped me on my learning path. Now, without further ado lets get to our first resource!

Codecademy

Codecademy is an online learning platform that provides free coding lessons in twelve different coding languages. These step by step materials combine reading and hands on practice which is great for beginners. They also have a variety of tech related subjects to choose from, from Web Design to Dev Ops. If you wish to upgrade to Pro Lite ($14.99/month) or Pro($19.99/month) they provide members only content which includes projects, guided career paths, interview prep, and official certifications. All that aside, the free content already provided has an abundance of materials to choose from (including a YouTube channel with career tips and mini tutorials) that can help you be well on your way to starting your new career.

freeCodeCamp

freeCodeCamp is a non-profit organization with over 8,000 tech related tutorials as well as an online community forum that can help you along if you feel stuck. Through their curriculum you build and complete projects step by step in order to obtain certifications by watching videos, reading articles, and/or completing interactive coding lessons. They also have a YouTube channel that provides in-depth tutorials as well to help further your understanding. With freeCodeCamp, you can learn anything from Responsive Web Design to Back-End Development and everything in between.

100Devs

Last, but ultimately my personal favorite on this list, is #100Devs or LearnWithLeon on Twitch. 100Devs is a free 30 Week bootcamp designed to teach you everything you need to know to become a full-stack web developer. Each lesson is taught live on Twitch by Leon himself and if you miss a class or happen to start the cohort at a later date, all the vods are uploaded to YouTube and available to watch anytime. They have a very uplifting Discord community that has alumni, mods, and fellow participants around 24/7 to help you should you have any questions on assignments or to simply study with. This program has hands-on weekly homework and projects, as well as teaches you career readiness through networking, interview prep, and even tips on enhancing your resume to make sure you are fully prepared to actually land a job in this field - and all completely free. You can start any time, and learn at your own pace all while interacting with and being supported by the 100Devs community.

Overall, all three of these resources provide you with the skills and knowledge you need in order to learn how to code. It will be hard work and require self-discipline, but each and every one of you are capable of reaching your goals with the help of these wonderful programs. Best of luck and happy coding!~
